After still more foggy sailing, we pulled into Akureyri about 8:00 AM. There was still fog, but it started to lift, the sun came out and the day turned bright and clear. We docked just a short walk from downtown (always nice). There were two other cruise ships in town - a German one that stops there every week and another which was docked on the other side of the harbor.
We headed into town about 9:30. Finally after almost a week of shopping deprivation, Adele found her kind of town. There were stores of all kinds, selling books, souvenirs, Icelandic woolens, and even seal pelts. Since the town center was quite small (even though Akkureyri is the third largest city in Iceland) it was quite walkable. I abandoned Adele to her favorite cruise activity (shopping) and walked around taking pictures. We both headed back to the ship about noon.
The weather started to cloud up as the day went on, and by the 3:00 PM sail away, it was quite dreary, though not raining at all. The trip out of the fjord gave me some more opportunity for scenic shots.
